Bonnie Crombies Liberal Leadership Win Shows Mississaugans The Direction Of Change

Who will replace Mississauga's longest serving mayor?

Bonnie Crombie's Liberal leadership win shows Mississaugans the direction of change

Mississauga's long-serving mayor Bonnie Crombie, recently elected leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, has made good on her promise to step down and a close race is expected for her replacement. Crombie is currently the city's longest serving mayor in its history, having been elected in 2014.

Four current city councillors —,Carolyn Parrish, Ron Starr, Karen Ras and Stephen Dasko — have launched major campaigns in a bid to replace Crombie. Parrish is an advocate for affordable housing and has written books on urban planning and affordable housing, while Starr is an environmental advocate who has served on boards of environmental organizations.

Ras and Dasko are both former police officers who now work as security consultants. While the two have similar professional experience, they have different political views. Ras is a progressive who supports increased funding for social programs, while Dasko is a fiscal conservative who supports tax cuts.

In addition to the four main candidates, there are 20 other candidates in the running for mayor. This includes several perennial candidates who have run for office multiple times without success.

Mississauga's new mayor faces a big job and a really big unanswered question

Mississauga's new mayor will face a number of challenges, including the city's ongoing housing crisis, the need to improve public transit, and the need to address the city's aging infrastructure. The new mayor will also need to address the big unanswered question of whether or not Mississauga should build a new light rail transit line.

The city has been studying the possibility of building a light rail transit line for several years, but no decision has been made. The new mayor will need to weigh the costs and benefits of building a new LRT line before making a decision.

The election for Missassauga's mayor will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022.
